Awning Window Specifications
General Specifications:
Aluminum awning type
windows are to be automatic self locking and shall conform to AAMA specifications
for residential and light commercial type buildings.
Material
Extruded sections shall be 6063-T5 aluminum alloy having a guaranteed
minimum tensile strength of 22,000 lbs./sq. in. and yield of 16,000 lbs./sq.
in. Minimum frame depth 1-15/16, vent depth I. All pins, bushings,
bearings, rivets and fasteners shall be of aluminum, nylon or approved
plated steel. Hinges, vent links and torque transfer links shall be 6061-T6
aluminum alloy with minimum tensile of 38,000 lbs./sq. in. and yield of
35,000 lbs./sq. in. Minimum wall thickness .062. All dimensions to be
in accordance with generally accepted commercial tolerances.
Construction
Main and vent frames to be screwed on construction. Double weather stripping
of extruded vinyl between vents and main frame. All operating mechanisms
(other than operator) to be concealed. Main frame available with or without
integral fin. Vents can be removed for reglazing. Window to accept operator
at either jamb.
Hardware and Operation
Operator shall be of worm and sector, offset type, with heat treated steel
gears properly coated. All moving parts nylonized including heavy duty
torque tube which transfers power equally to actuating mechanisms in both
jambs. Top vent to drop to permit easy cleaning from inside. All vents
to move simultaneously.
Automatic Locks
Cam actuated locks, riveted to an independent link bar will engage studs
on either side of vents during final turns of operator to insure tight
closure, eliminating adjustments and assuring positive locking of window.
Screens
Windows will be supplied with screens unless specified otherwise. Aluminum
frames with fiberglass screen cloth 18x16 mesh anchored into frame with
vinyl spline. Screens shall be removed easily by raising ¼
and lifting out.
Erection (by other)
The contractor shall securely fasten window in place; plumb, level and
square without distortion of frame members. He should not permit screws
to interfere with operating hardware. A suitable caulking compound shall
be applied behind and around the outer flanges of the window before and/or
after their being set in the openings. Where window comes in contact with
lime content masonry the surface must be protected by the contractor with
suitable material.
Glazing
Windows shall be factory glazed, using an approved method.
